RoboCup 2023 in Bordeaux - Day 4 - Drop-In Games & 1st Game Day
Let the games begin! …
… and for us it started right in the morning with our first Drop-In game (Note: In Drop-In games, several teams each provide one robot, and these then play together against another team). The games didn’t go so well for our team, but we were at least able to take part in all of them with a robot, and we even managed to win our last game.
The team was under quite a lot of tension during and between the games, since there was little time between games to service and test the robots that had played and make them ready for the next use. Anyone who needed a break could look around the sprawling grounds at the stands of the other teams and leagues or find a quiet spot. On one of our walks around, we met the team of the service robot ToBi from Bielefeld and got to see it in action right away.
After the Drop-In Games, the first game of the 1st round-robin round was also on the schedule that afternoon. And right at the start we faced the former world champion CIT Brains on the field. The game was accordingly one-sided, but it showed the team – especially the newcomers – impressively and mercilessly what a world championship is like and how quickly a lovingly maintained robot can be damaged by just one fall.
Despite the heavy defeat at the end of the 1st game day, the team prepared for the next day highly motivated, and after a simple dinner in the nearby Ginko district, everyone returned to the hotel tired.
