RoboCup 2023 in Bordeaux - Day 2/3 - Setup Days

The gates are open! RoboCup has begun. The teams stream into the halls and populate the work tables. Of course our team is right in the thick of it. After breakfast together, we loaded everything we need in the hall into the car and then headed to the hall. Once there, after registration, we started setting up our workspace for the coming days and got a first whiff of hall air.
Despite the colorful hustle and bustle, everyone had a task and the setup went ahead in a coordinated way. After reaching this milestone, it was time for a short team meeting and the group photo.
After that, the first work began. The hardware folks screwed, wired and kept the robots fit. The software folks tuned the software, and the supporters took great care of the catering in the hall: pastries, fruit, vegetables, snacks and drinks – there was something for everyone. In the afternoon it became eerily quiet in the huge hall. Because of the Depeche Mode concert taking place at the same time and possible demonstrations, the last tram to the center already left early in the evening. Part of the team stayed on site and, on the way back along Le Lac, got to enjoy a beautiful sunset.
At the hotel, the others welcomed us with delicious pesto pasta and green salad.

We went to the hall early today for breakfast together and to really get stuck in – after all, today is the Robot Inspection, the qualification of our robots. And there was still a lot to do. Screws that wouldn’t hold had to be glued in place. Animations were rehearsed and the software was tuned. Then came the big moment: the Robot Inspection of Sara, on behalf of all the robots. After many checks of dimensions, weight and center of mass, the stand-up test was still to come, which, like all the other tests, was passed with flying colors. Only the “jersey” needed a little re-tailoring.
Still, the first stage is done – great praise and thanks to our hardware, software and animation teams! After the inspection, some teammates got to work on optimizing the vision, while others treated themselves to a well-deserved break.
Until late in the evening we kept testing, screwing and programming, all in preparation for the Drop-In Games tomorrow. After a mixed dinner at the food trucks on the grounds, we took the last tram back to the hotel.
